Sabri Zain's Freshwater Protozoa of north
        Cambridgeshire

Specimen 078

This relatively long monster is Chaetogaster - a genus belonging to the segmented worms (Annelida). These transparent worms can be between 2–25 mm long and are very common in fresh water.  They bear setae (bristles) only on their ventral side, which is what gives them their name. These are predators, feeding on smaller organisms. They are sediment dweller but can be found living among aquatic plants or even as parasites on larger invertebrates.
