Cosmarium is a genus of fresh water organisms belonging to the Charophyta, a division of green algae from which the land plants (Embryophyta) emerged. This particular species - Cosmarium quinarium - belongs to a group of granulate Cosmaria in which the granules are not uniformly distributed over the cell wall. It is characterized by semicells containing chloroplasts and large pyrenoids. |
