A video showing Stentor coeruleus transforming itself from a ball to its fully extended shape of a very large trumpet. It has the ability to contract into a ball when it is moving, through the contraction of its many myonemes. It then extends itself to its trumpet shape when it stops to feed, opening its crown of cilia at its 'mouth' to suck up food in the surrounding water. |
