A beautiful little Euglena we found in a water sample from Kingfisher pond in Northstowe. Euglena is a genus of single cell flagellate. Euglena have photosynthesizing chloroplasts within the body of the cell, giving the flagellate its lovely emerald green appearance. This enables them to feed by autotrophy, like plants. However, they can also take nourishment heterotrophically, like animals. |
