A short video showing vortacella - single-celled protozoans that look like bells or tulips on long, thin stalks that can contract. They have a circle of fast moving cilia or hairs inside the tulip-shaped head used to induce water movement for filter feeding. Recorded by Rishon on a SWIFT SW350T Trinocular Compound Microscope, using bright-field and dark-field microscopy. All video footage was recorded in real-time - the video was not speeded up or reduced in speed. From water samples collected at Kingfisher Pond in Northstowe. |
