Sabri Zain's Freshwater Protozoa of north Cambridgeshire

Specimen 016

A short video of an amoeba from a water sample we collected at Ferry Lagoon during our trip last weekend to Fen Drayton Nature Reserve. Amoeba are very small and very diffidult to see under a microscope due to them being so transparent. They also sometimes move very slowly, making them even more diffcult to spot. Because of this, we had to speed the video up six times so you can clearly see its shape-shifting dance. Midway in the video, you'll also be able to see the amoeba expel some poor microbe it had enveloped and digested.
