Red Deadnettle

Red Deadnettle (Lamium purpureum), also known as Purple Deadnettle, is an annual herbaceous plant native to Europe and Asia.

Medicinal uses: Historically, Red Deadnettle has been used in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory, astringent, and diuretic properties. It has been used to treat minor wounds, skin irritations, and digestive issues. However, scientific evidence supporting these uses is limited, so consult a healthcare professional before using L. purpureum for medicinal purposes.

Edible uses: The young leaves, shoots, and flowers of Red Deadnettle are edible and can be consumed raw or cooked. They have a mild, slightly sweet flavor and can be added to salads, soups, or used as a garnish. It is important to ensure proper identification before consuming any wild plants.

Ornamental value: Although it is considered a weed by some, L. purpureum can also be grown as a ground cover or in wildflower gardens, adding a touch of color with its purplish-red flowers.
